You may notice that every date/time notification will fire a second time in case the first notification was missed. This isn't a bug — it's a feature. It was designed to lower the change of any to-do notifications to be missed.
Head on to Settings > Repeat Alerts screen to configure repeating alerts or to disable them permanently.
